This
President's Day Weekend outside of Tuscon, Arizona, Rooted In Community
(RIC), in partnership with the Tuscon Community Food Bank's Youth Farm
Project, will be hosting our first Winter Leadership Institute. If you are a youth or adult mentor who works in food justice and youth empowerment, this gathering is for you!
A limited number of youth will be selected to join a national youth
working group to design activities and campaigns around the Youth Food Bill of Rights created at this past summer's RIC Summit. We are aiming to select a
diverse, committed, amazing mix of youth for this group! All youth are
encouraged to apply. There will be facilitated brainstorms, skill
building workshops on using media tools, talking to your legislators,
understanding food policy, and using creative arts to inspire and
organize in your communities.
Adults will have the opportunity to collaborate and learn from other leaders in food justice and youth empowerment work to identify best practices and challenges we face in our programs, have structured sessions to share materials and curriculum, and
attend workshops on weaving national advocacy work into your programs,
financial sustainability for your program, and using creative arts and
media as tools for your work. There will also be shared activities and
time to reflect, retreat, and build personal relationships with one
another. Please follow the links below to the applications and complete by December 1, 2011:
